For some reason, maintaining this blog is something I love putting off. I guess it's just hard to make time to sit back and reflect on things. That's probably a bad thing. A little reflection gives you a lot more clarity of mind at the end of the day. Writing more was actually my new year's resolution, as Suneet kindly reminded me about the other day. Anyway, a couple things I wanted to write about.
Language. I was talking with my buddy Marlon the other day about learning a language and how he first started learning French because he met a beautiful girl from Madagascar... who only spoke French. Got me thinking about maybe my favorite commercial of all time. Got a couple of good things going for it. First - the song is by Air. Second, the actor is Gael Garcia Bernal, of Motorcycle Diaries and Science of Sleep fame. Third, it's just really well done. Here's the video from youtube.
I was hitchhiking with my brother in Germany once from a small town to the regional capital. A car (a Deux Chevaux) stopped. The driver asked where we were going and said he could only take one of us. Being selfish, I got in, and told my brother I would meet him in such and such platz in front of a fancy hotel. I gave him a wave as we put-putted off down the road. About three hours later, I arrived at the hotel. My brother was standing there looking bored. Ten minutes after I had been picked up, he was picked up by a group of people in a Rolls Royce convertible, and they passed us so fast I never even saw him wave. He had been at the hotel for 90 minutes waiting for me. We then toured the city for a few hours, and I said "it's time to head back, let's go to the outskirts and try to find a ride." "Oh, he replied, "I am meeting those same guys at the hotel at 7:30 pm; they are giving me a ride back." He got back at 9 pm that night. I rolled in around 11:30.
